You need 60 of 80 points on the national portion and 38 of 50 points on the Virginia state portion. The two portions are scored separately and you must pass both.
Is the Virginia broker exam harder than the salesperson exam?
It covers more advanced material — brokerage management, trust accounts, and agency law — so targeted prep is important.
Can I retake the Virginia broker exam if I fail?
Yes. You retake only the portion you failed and keep the portion you passed, rescheduling through PSI. Your completed licence application must reach DPOR within one year of the date you first sat the exam, or the expired portion has to be taken again.
Is the Virginia broker exam prep course self-paced?
Yes — you study online at your own pace with practice questions and a math cram to reinforce the tougher topics.
How many questions are on the Virginia real estate broker exam?
125 in total: 75 on the national portion and 50 on the Virginia state portion. You are allowed 160 minutes overall, split into 105 minutes for the national portion and 55 minutes for the state portion.
How much does the Virginia real estate broker exam cost?
The PSI examination fee is $60. Fingerprinting costs a further $52, which covers the $27 state processing fee and PSI’s $25 processing fee.
How long are my Virginia broker exam results valid?
Your completed licence application must be submitted within one year of the date you originally sat the examination. If the paperwork and fees do not reach DPOR inside that year, you must retake the expired portion or portions.
Is the Virginia broker exam open book?
No. The Virginia broker examination is closed-book. Study guides, notes and textbooks are not permitted in the test room, and PSI’s candidate information bulletin lists exactly what you may bring with you.
Where do you take the Virginia broker exam?
At an approved PSI testing centre. Virginia sites include Vienna, Charlottesville, Virginia Beach, Richmond, Salisbury, Roanoke and Johnson City. The exam must be sat in person and cannot be taken online.
When will I receive my Virginia broker exam results?
Immediately. Your score is displayed on screen at the end of the examination and a score report is emailed to you. If you fail, that report includes a diagnostic breakdown of your strengths and weaknesses by topic.
