How Often Do You Have to Renew Your Real Estate License in Florida?
You must renew your Florida real estate license prior to the applicable renewal date, once every 18 – 24 months, from the date your license was issued. It is imperative that you renew your Florida real estate license on time, in order to be able to legally continue offering real estate services, and to keep your license in “active” status.
If you fail to renew your real estate license on time, your license will be classed as “Null and Void” meaning you would be required to start the real estate licensing process all over again. courses. The education requirement consists of two 30-hour courses, equaling 60 hours of post licensing education. Florida state sets this broker license renewal education requirement, as working as a real estate professional, means you are required to possess a large amount of knowledge relating to the industry, which is demanding for you to learn, on your first 72-hour pre-license broker course, in all its entirety. Again, it is advantageous you start the broker
license renewal course as soon as possible, as the course material will help you develop your skills as a Florida real estate
broker, and will also give you enough time to complete the course, and pass the post license exam prior to your license renewal deadline. What happens if a broker failed to complete the required post-license course by the license expiration date?
In the event that a broker or broker associate fails to successfully complete the mandatory 60 hour broker license renewal courses, before their first initial real estate license renewal date, their license will then be categorized as “null and void.” A license that is considered “null and void,” means that the individual will be required to start the licensing process again, by successfully completing the Broker pre-license course, have their application for their state license approved by the DBPR, and pass the Florida state exam. Alternatively, they may operate as a licensed sales associate on the condition that the licensee successfully completes the 14-Hour continuing education requirement, within a period of 6 months, after the license expiry date.
How Much Does It Cost to Renew Your Real Estate License in Florida
Real estate licensees are also required to make full payment of their Florida real estate license renewal fees to the DBPR. The Florida real estate license renewal fees are as follows;
General Renewal Information: The renewal fee specified on your account includes the current fee of $32 for Sales Associates and $36 for Brokers and Broker Associates, and where applicable, past renewal fees and late fee.

How Long Can a Real Estate License Be Inactive?
If a license has been classified as involuntary inactive for a maximum of 1 year, the licensee will be required to complete the 14-Hour continuing education course, to return their license to active status. If the license has been involuntarily inactive for more than one year, but less than two years, the agent will be required to take a 28-Hour reactivation course.

Can I Renew My Real Estate License After It Expires in Florida?
If a sales associate fails to meet license renewal requirements before their initial renewal date, they must restart their license education at the very beginning, by
taking the 63 Hour Sales Associate Course. If a licensed broker fails to meet license renewal requirements prior to their renewal date, they may revert their license to a sales associate license within 6 months of their license expiring, or alternatively retake the 72 Hour pre licensing broker course, and state exam again. Failure to renew licenses on the second renewal or more, means that the license will fall into the category of involuntary inactive.
Involuntary Inactive Licenses in Florida
A real estate license will automatically become involuntary inactive and a license will not be able to practice real estate if the 14 Hour Continuing Education Requirement is not completed on time. There are three possible scenarios:
- If a license has been involuntarily inactive for 1-12 months, the Licensee will need to complete the 14 Hour Continuing Education course and pay an
additional late fee.
- If a license has been involuntarily inactive for 13-24 months, the Licensee must complete a
28 Hour License Reactivation course and pay a late renewal fee.
- If a license has been involuntarily inactive for more than 24 months, the License will become null & void. The Licensee will have to retake the 63 Hour Sales Associate Pre-License course and pass the State Exam again in order to obtain an Active Real Estate License.
